Our story began with our Founder & Creative Director, Meghna Thapa, who studied fashion and textile design in New Delhi, India. After gaining valuable experience in India’s garment industry, she returned to Nepal in 2003, reconnecting with her roots and immersing herself in the age-old craft of cashmere. Meghna has since built a legacy that intertwines tradition with modern sensibilities. Her passion for cashmere and connection to Nepal’s rich heritage guide every aspect of our work.

our process
At Himalayan Artizen, the creation of a cashmere product is a meticulously refined process, embodying the highest standards of craftsmanship and luxury. Each stage is executed with precision and care to produce a product that epitomizes elegance and comfort.
Sourcing and Selection
Our journey begins with the discerning selection of the finest cashmere fibers, sourced from the esteemed cashmere goats of Mongolia. These fibers, renowned for their exceptional softness and warmth, are gathered with the utmost respect for the animal and the environment. Each batch of cashmere is meticulously sorted and cleaned to ensure that only the purest and most luxurious fibers are chosen for our scarves.
Processing
The pristine raw cashmere undergoes a rigorous de-hairing process, where coarse outer hairs are separated from the delicate undercoat. Following this, the fibers are carded to align them, creating a smooth, even texture that serves as the foundation for our high-quality yarn.
Spinning
The carded fibers are then spun into yarn using traditional techniques that preserve the cashmere’s inherent softness. This yarn can be dyed in a spectrum of exquisite hues, employing either natural or synthetic dyes to achieve the perfect shade.
Weaving or Knitting
In the weaving stage, the yarn is meticulously set up on classic looms. Skilled artisans weave the yarn into sumptuous fabric using techniques such as plain weave, twill, satin, or jacquard, each contributing to the product’s distinctive texture and pattern. Alternatively, for knitted scarves, the yarn is artfully knitted into fabric using various stitches like ribbing, stockinette, or garter stitch, ensuring both elegance and durability.
Cutting and Sewing
The finished fabric is then carefully cut into product-sized pieces with precise measurements. Each piece is expertly sewn, with edges meticulously hemmed to prevent fraying and to provide a refined, polished appearance.
Quality Control
Every product is subjected to a rigorous quality control process, where it is examined for any imperfections or inconsistencies. Our artisans ensure that each product meets our exacting standards, making any necessary adjustments to uphold the highest level of craftsmanship.
Finishing
Once the fabric is woven or knitted, it undergoes a series of finishing processes designed to enhance its luxurious qualities. The fabric is washed to remove any residual dye or impurities, followed by steaming to relax the fibers and perfect the texture. In certain cases, the cashmere is brushed to achieve a sublime softness and a velvety finish.
Packaging
Finally, the exquisite cashmere scarves are thoughtfully folded and elegantly packaged. Each product is presented with care instructions and branded elements, ready to be cherished and enjoyed.

My journey in fashion and textiles began with my studies in fashion and textile design in New Delhi, India. After gaining valuable experience in India's garment industry, I returned to Nepal in 2003, reconnecting with my roots and embracing the rich heritage of cashmere craftsmanship. With over 18 years in the industry, I’ve had the privilege of navigating international markets, attending vibrant trade shows, and collaborating with passionate artisans.
The ever-evolving world of cashmere continues to inspire me—drawing motivation from the Himalayas' grandeur, the beauty of nature, and the growing innovation within the industry. These mountains embody strength, elegance, and timeless beauty, elements we strive to reflect in each piece we create at Himalayan Artizen.
Our commitment goes beyond luxury; it's about sustainability, ethics, and quality. We carefully source the finest baby yak wool and Mongolian cashmere through certified suppliers who share our values. From the initial sourcing to the final touches, we oversee every step to ensure that our products remain true to Nepal’s traditions while upholding the highest standards of sustainability and craftsmanship.
